I publish this site out of our love for Durham. We Love Durham so much, that if you’re in Durham, we probably love you. If you have a business, and you want to submit a review or a coupon or pictures, or nearly anything, I will probably publish it on the site. The more the merrier! If we love you, I’ll say so. If we don’t, we’ll keep our mouths shut about it like mama taught us. Either way, I don’t take cash or bribes in exchange for good reviews, so you can feel comfortable knowing that if I say we love something, it is an honest opinion.
Thank you, and enjoy!

Valerie,
Thank you so much for this website. Moving her from Louisiana has been a little tough since I don’t know a soul here, but your website is a GREAT reference for me. With having said that I do need help finding a Beauty Salon to that is good with hiding my gray. Can you or your “friends” help me.
Thanks so much
That’s awesome! Welcome to NC and to Durham! There are so many great groups to meet people… check out meetup.com for Durham groups, or the Durham Mothers Club if you’re a mom, or one of our many church communities or service organizations. Something for everyone. :) I don’t know any good beauticians. I know an aesthetician that might know. She is at http://www.athingofbeauty.biz/
How about just a good place for a guy to get a haircut?
We like SportsCuts in that shopping center off Southwest Durham Drive (off of 15-501 near Outhouse Steaks).
Outhouse Steaks? Ha! Was that intentional?
Oh, my, that was a good one. Oops. :D
Guess you won’t be getting any sponsor dough to give to Scrap Exchange from Out.. Steaks!
Just discovered this site, and love it! Thanks for doing it.
Well, you know, any publicity is good publicity.
Thanks for the note! :D
Great site! I’ve been looking for Durham sites/blogs written by real people :) (you know what I mean). I blog about Durham too, on occasion. I’m glad to have found this blog.
I am indeed a real person. ;) Welcome! Thanks for showing me your blog, too!

Valerie,
Wonderful site. I wanted to know if you’d consider linking to my drum instruction studio?
I teach individual drum lessons out of my home studio. I charge $30 per half-hour lesson and teach students of all ages and especially enjoy teaching beginning students.
You can learn more about my career as a professional drummer at: http://www.dalebakerdrummer.com
Thanks for supporting Durham! My family and I love it here!
Awesome! Yes, I’ll add you over on Services shortly.
Uplift East Durham and Preservation Durham are hosting the Old East Durham Open Home Tour. This event is for realtors and prospective home buyers. We would love more cool neighbors and we’d like to talk with interested buyers, show them what neat stuff we’ve done rehabbing our homes and invite them to be part of our community.
The event will be on January 27th (Sunday) from 1-4pm. Pass it along. Event contact is Aidil Collins at aidiloc@gmail.com.
Upcoming events at the Museum of Life and Science:
February 9 - Birdapalooza! Featuring Birdman Dave, Audubon NC, Carolina Raptor Center, birding walk and more
March 22 - Robot Rumble
April 12 - Butterfly Bash and Bug Safari

Thanks for helping to spread the word.
Thanks for these updates, neighbors!
I lived and worked in Durham in 1981-1984, and miss it dearly. It was then and I’m sure it is now a dynamic, smart, innovative, hard-working, funky and fun city!
I especially loved going to the Bulls games when they were in the old Durham Athletic Park (where Bull Durham was filmed).
Can you still get bagel dogs at a little cafe in downtown? Oh, man, I’d pay mucho dinero for one right now!
Give ol’ Durham a big ol’ hug for me!
Mark
Mark, you would not recognize downtown Durham! Check her out: http://www.downtowndurham.com/
Though a bagel dog sounds delicious. That strip of cafes I’m remembering from the 80s that must have had bagel dogs are gone.
Hug received! :)
Too funny! Just saw you on southernmamas.com!
LOL!
How about that old, funky three story ‘book’ store downtown? Is that still there? I loved that place. I hear there’s a ‘movement’ to keep Durham ‘funky’.
I *think* it’s going to be renovated. Would love to hear more info about that, though.
I thought you would be interested in the press release we are sending out today. Feel free to contact me if you would like a logo image to post, or if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Rochelle
The Down Under Pub Gets Another Chance
New Owner, New Menu, New Pub

(Durham, North Carolina) – “New Owner. New Menu. New Pub.” is the new theme at The Down Under Pub on Main Street. Chrystal Kelly, the new owner of the pub and veteran pub bartender for over 6 years, is transforming the once dingy bar with new menu, live music, and drink specials 7 days a week. “We have a wonderful location in a beautiful historic building – the pub will be a Durham favorite,” said Kelly.
The Down Under Pub, once a run-down building that offered little ambiance and menu selection, now offers salads, entrees, and an active nightlife. “We can now be called a neighborhood bar and grill,” Kelly said. “I wanted to start over without gutting the entire bar and chasing away our current customers. We have a very loyal and eclectic patron base — the pub maintains a casual atmosphere where customers feel at home. That being said, I also hope to expand to see new faces in the bar.”
And how will Kelly see new faces? A new logo, building facade, website, menu, take-out menu, music, and community events are all components of her plan. The new Down Under outdoor sign is scheduled to be constructed by late July, which will announce the arrival of a new pub and replace the faded sign that is now on it’s way to retirement.
Visit www.TheDownUnderPub.com to see drink specials, the take-out menu, and event updates.
Valerie,
