Bug Facts

The Boy hitched a ride to the Bug Facts class at the Southwest Library yesterday. He reports the program leaders were from the Natural Sciences Museum in downtown Raleigh, and that it was really about all invertebrates, because among other things, there was a baby octopus.

  1. The program began with sponges and sea stars… and of fifty kids, not one mentioned any cartoon shows!
When did they stop calling them starfish??
Mine liked the sea urchin and the horseshoe crab the best.

  3. Yes, I am learning all kinds of new things from my kids. Starfish are not fish. Pluto is not a planet. The continent formerly known as Australia was renamed (but they reseparated Europe and Asia). There’s another ocean, too, near Antarctica. Next think you know, they’ll tell us there’s a new way to do math.
