  1. What a strange game tax assessment is. We came in at $213,000. Brown-house-next-door is $256,000, while yellow-house-next-door is $216,000. Odd, because these 3 houses seem nearly identical to me.

But this 213 number they’ve given us isn’t meaningful unless I know what the average percent increase is supposed to be each time assessments are done. In our case, 213 is up from 140. That’s an increase of over 50%. Shit! Is that normal? How does one find out what “normal” is?

  3. Yeah, I found the neighborhood comparisons of very similar houses all over the map. Someone who worked with land records in another NC county said that they take into account the purchase price. If you have lived in your house a short while, I would suppose it is close to the purchase price. If you’ve lived in your house a long while, it should increase a lot, based on how much homes have increased in value, right?

  5. Oh, brown-house has 3,000 square feet. Makes more sense.
