Comfort Food
I never thought I would be comfortable eating dinner so close to a highway overpass, but through some combination of atmosphere and pizza goodness, Mellow Mushroom manages to pull it off. Nice.

What with you having kids and all, I’d suspect that your family eats food while driving ON highways and their overpasses all the time!
How many cupholders in your vehicles? Do you roadtrip?
I grew up in a family of modest means that liked taking road trips (often to visit other family). We always packed lots of food to eat on the road, either in the car or at rest areas. Restaurant food on road trips was the exception, not the rule. Oh and of course we had those hang-on-your-doorjamb drink holders. For our Chek brand colas that often spilled when you jostled the drink holder.
Such days. I have fond memories. And I don’t want to relive them.
No cupholders. We do roadtrip. You might imagine what the floorboards look like!
Now that I’m on this side of the equation, I know that parents hope that their kids have the nice memories from being squeezed in small quarters barreling across the country. At least they make carseats now.
I’ve eaten there with my kids (ages 2.5 and 15 months). Found the service…tolerant, but not much better than that. When at American Tobacco, I find Tyler’s to be a more welcoming place to take my kids. The staff has always been great to them.
We’ll have to try Tyler’s with them. When we were at MM (Sunday for late dinner), it was nothing but families/kids. Our server was great, but there were only about 10 tables in total.
Mellow Mushroom has Purple Haze on tap, I think. Yum.
Oh, nice. Tho TurboDog has a nice bite. When will they get Triangle Brewing Company ale is the question?
I heard that the YMCA at the tabacoo campus offers free child care on friday nights while parents dine at Tyler’s.
Oh, nice! Free parking AND free kid-parking!
