Cold in Durham
Cold today! Snow tomorrow!
Specifically, WRAL weather center says this for tomorrow:
Thursday: Winter Storm Watch in effect for today. Precipitation is likely to start as a snow/sleet mix early and may accumulate in some places. By lunchtime it will increase in intensity and change mostly to freezing rain and then rain. Highs in the low 30s. Wind: NE, 5-10 mph.
In other news, in the What Bugs are Going Around the Schools department: first stomach virus, then fevers, now Strep. What a season!
Broad Street Cafe
We visited Broad Street Cafe to see how friendly it is for kid play. The play area is separated, so there is no worry that kids are making too much noise for the laptoppers (there is free wireless there). To play, they have a trains table, hot wheels, lots of wooden puzzles, books, coloring books and crayons, and a big collection of Rescue Heroes. Comfy couch and coffee for mama, and this gets two thumbs up!
Someone this afternoon asked me if we had been to the Broad Street Cafe Sunday evening events for kids, so we’ll have to check those out, too.
Buying a home in Durham
There are nearly 2000 homes for sale in Durham County. Beautiful homes! You can learn more about Durham neighborhoods here.
Durham Scientist Gives Us Buzz Donuts
The Buzz Donut (caffeine equivalent of two cups of coffee) sounds like great multitasking to me! A Durhamite came up with this. Maybe we can replace whatever replaced the Krispy Kreme with a Buzz Donut shop.

WXDU Online
I cannot wait until 7am when I can begin to listen to WXDU online.
Visit the We Love Durham site to see other Durham radio stations.
Schoolhouse of Wonder Forums
These are fun. Can you identify a medicinal plant in your yard?
We have quite a few educational programs in Durham.
Durham Politics
I just noticed; now anyone (registered users, that is) can post at DurhamPolitics.com.
Panaderia on Chapel Hill Road
I finally had a second in my driving-around to stop at the Panaderia on Chapel Hill Road, right down from Lakewood Shopping Center. Still painted on the brick outside is “Davis Baking Co.” from long ago. The girl and I had a lovely pink “conches.” It was a bit like the guglhupf (see Guglhupf Bakery on Chapel Hill Boulevard!) … light and airy slightly sweet bread, and with a dash of pink frosting. The girl said, “Mmm, yummy!”
Some of our favorite Durham restaurants are featured on the main site.
Durham Public Schools Holiday
The Durham Public School elementary students are out of school today following testing. Enjoy the day!
Snow Day!
Snow, in Durham! My dog has never seen snow. The girl neither. The boy is sledding, stomping, and throwing snowballs. School’s out in Durham County. Woohoo snow!
Durham’s New Website
The City of Durham has a new website. Isn’t it pretty? If you repeatedly reload the page, you will see a range of photos from around Durham.
Fair Trade Coffee and Tea
Fair trade coffee and tea from Kenya to Durham (or online to you).

Did I mention how much this sticker gives me joy? Check out the home for Durham Love Yourself.
Amante Pizza in Durham
The owner of this pizza shoppe is so super nice. At Amante, the pizza dough and sauce are made fresh in the store, and most of the toppings are sliced fresh daily (except for things like black olives and banana peppers, obviously). Yum!
