Durham Poetry
Haven’t read a lot of poetry lately, but I received a little volume called Licorice from Bull City Press, and it was a charmer.
Horse and Buggy Press
Ooo, pretty.
Publishing House in Durham
Maybe you’ve seen the ABC painting in the lobby of the Main Branch of the Durham County Library? The artists also wrote a book with the same paintings… available from the Carolina Wren Press here in Durham.
Durham is a Smart City
This just in: Durham is the 6th smartest city in America.
Five Points in Durham?
I hear “Five Points” I think Raleigh… but we have one in Downtown Durham as well. It’s hard to see because of the current (2006) construction, but here is an overview with photos at Endangered Durham.
Made in Durham
This list of things Made in Durham is not nearly complete, but it’s a beginning.
More Reasons to Buy Locally
More reasons to shop with Durham retailers. I’d love to see a list (maybe I need to create one) of things Made in Durham, too.
Durham = Durham?
I read that Durham County consisted entirely of Durham City, but that’s not right. The county also holds Bahama and Rougemont, and RTP (although I don’t think there is housing in RTP), not to mention the large unincorporated area in Northern Durham County.
Downtown Durham Parking
Parking in Downtown Durham is very pleasant. There are many free spots on the street, and the parking deck isn’t expensive. It makes me want to park and stay all day, exploring what there is to see. Today Legacy Studios had a dance recital in the Armory (part of the Civic Center complex). The kids really put on a great show!
Durham Dentist Delivers
Pleasant experience at the Sapp dentistry office. Happy teeth.
Adult Dentist in Durham
Today I will get my ouchie tooth filled by the younger of the Drs. Sapp. Wish me luck!
Bistro64
Okay, Bistro64 is in Cary, but the owners are Durhamites… I salivate every time I look at menu.
Northgate Carousel Frequent Flyers Club
You can receive a frequent rider card at the Northgate Carousel now… be sure to ask for it! The dragon awaits.
Fake Trees
Off of Garrett Road there is a cell phone tower disguised as a very tall pine tree (the height is what gave it away). We walked close to it today to inspect; appears to be metal or fiberglass. Are these everywhere and I don’t see them?
Shop Locally
This article in the Durham News makes good arguments for keeping your shopping dollars in Durham (and some ideas, too): “You could think of buying locally as a way to have a virtual credit card that pays everyone in Durham a 31 to 54 percent rebate, but without the paperwork or the spam…“
