Classes for Young Children at NCMLS

Author: Valerie

Oh, and also about the NCMLS. This was our first session with the Classes for Young Children. As members, the cost was $45, and it was well worth it to hear my son get so excited about “science class.” The scientist-instructor was very good with kids, and my son reported his findings for the rest of the week. He brought home and arts & crafts project, and got to see some Nighttime animals, too. He says his class next month will be on a different topic. Oh! I better go sign him up. Don’t beat me there: http://www.ncmls.org/education/camps.asp

NCSSM Pow-Wow

Author: Valerie

We attended this Pow-Wow last year. My son enjoyed seeing the Native American costumes and dances.

I’ll try to get photos this year, but check out the flyer and pics from last year on the NCSSM site:

This earned Vaguely Reminiscent a spot on the We Love Durham site. I can’t believe I forgot about that great store. I haven’t been there since high school. Must visit!

Crime Stats

Author: Valerie

Someone on a bulletin board I’m on asked which was better, Asheville or Durham. Of course, someone piped up and said, Oh, too much crime in Durham. Really? I looked it up, and according to the 2003 FBI Report of Offenses Known to Law Enforcement, Asheville has a greater per capita incidence of both violent and property crime.
